Anonymous: EXACTLY! Brandy’s Cinderella is the only one I can watch because GUH! It’s so wonderful! And the casting is great! I wish more Disney movies could include more races. I remember when I was little I preferred it that way.
Me too! I was a super positive influence to me as a child.
First of all, I WoC as a princess and LEAD (whereas WoC are usually background characters), a kingdom run by a bi-racial couple (an African American queen running a Europeanesque land), also the prince was Asian who had his own dreams and desires (whereas other films had portrayed stereotypes of Asians) .
I mean I just love that film, too many rights.
The music was also amazing (I am a sap for musicals).
AND YOU HAVE WHITNEY HOUSTON. AS YOUR FAIRY GODMOTHER, I MEAN WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED?? ALL THE AWARDS.

I am glad I saw this movie as a kid many, many times. It is one of my favorite musicals. And now I have a whole ‘nother reason to appreciate it.

Are we also forgetting the fact that it portrayed the evil stepmother and step sisters with a possible conscious? They weren’t always flat out evil. Especially Bernadette Peters. With that sinister also came this repressed humanity. She was amazing. The characters weren’t caricatures; they felt real and I could finally BELIEVE the prince could fall in love with Cinderella that fast. I appreciate so much that they COULD have just made this a movie milking how multiracial the cast was, but INSTEAD they gave us more depth, a good story, and amazing music.
